Jalandhar, Punjab: Controversial self-styled pastor Bajinder Singh, also known as ‘Yeshu Yeshu’ or ‘Papa’ among his followers, has been booked in a sexual harassment case in Punjab’s Jalandhar district. The case adds to a long list of allegations and controversies surrounding the religious leader, who has gained a massive following on social media for his so-called “miracle healings” and prophetic claims.

Allegations of Sexual Harassment

A woman has accused Bajinder Singh of inappropriate behavior dating back to 2017. According to the complaint, the victim alleged that Singh initiated contact after she started attending his church in Jalandhar with her parents. She claims that Singh sent her messages and later took advantage of a private meeting inside a church cabin, where he allegedly touched her inappropriately and hugged her without consent.

This is not the first time Singh has faced serious accusations. In 2018, he was arrested at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while attempting to board a flight to London, following an alleged rape case registered in Mohali. The case is still under trial.

Who Is Bajinder Singh?

Bajinder Singh, originally a Haryanvi Jat, reportedly converted to Christianity while serving jail time in a murder case over a decade ago. After his release, he rebranded himself as a pastor and faith healer, gaining immense popularity through YouTube and social media, where he showcases alleged miracle cures for ailments ranging from disabilities to terminal diseases.

One of his most viral videos includes a prophecy from 2018 where he predicted that “three big film stars” would face sudden troubles or even death. The video juxtaposes his prediction with news clips of actress Sridevi’s unexpected demise and actor Salman Khan’s five-year jail sentence. The video amassed 6.9 million views, further amplifying his mystique.

In another video, watched by over 8 million people, Singh claims to heal birth disabilities using “anointed water and salt,” surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd. His sermons often blend faith, superstition, and prosperity gospel, promising instant wealth and supernatural transformations.

The Rise of a Social Media Sensation

Bajinder Singh’s digital footprint is staggering. With 3.7 million YouTube subscribers, over a billion views across 1,800+ videos, and a strong presence on Instagram, his influence extends far beyond religious congregations. However, despite his vast following, he largely remained under the mainstream radar until the resurfacing of his infamous Mera Yeshu Yeshu video in 2021, which went viral seven years after its original upload.

His growing prominence has not come without scrutiny. In 2021, the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) flagged one of his videos for promoting superstitious activities involving a child. Additionally, a family in Delhi accused him of financial exploitation, alleging that Singh took money promising to heal their daughter suffering from cancer, who later passed away.

A Controversial Figure Under Investigation

Singh’s history is marred with legal troubles and ethical concerns. His past criminal record, allegations of misconduct, and continued claims of supernatural healing have put him at the center of religious and legal debates in India. With the latest sexual harassment charges against him, authorities are under pressure to scrutinize his activities more closely.

As investigations unfold, the case raises critical questions about the unchecked rise of self-proclaimed faith healers in India and the exploitation of vulnerable communities in the name of religion. Authorities and social activists continue to monitor the case, with calls growing louder for stringent action against individuals using religion as a shield for unlawful activities.
