Ex-Army Man Arrested for Tying and Assaulting 5-Year-Old Girl Over a Guava

In a deeply disturbing incident that has ignited nationwide fury, a retired Army officer from Himachal Pradesh’s Una district has been arrested for allegedly tying a young child to a staircase railing and brutally assaulting her. The child’s alleged offense? Plucking a single guava from the man’s garden.

The horrifying episode, which took place in Behdala village, came to light after a distressing video of the traumatized child went viral on social media, prompting swift intervention from local authorities, child protection services, and an outraged public.

Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the incident, the rescue, and the ensuing police action.

The Incident: A Disproportionate and Cruel Punishment

According to local reports and police investigations, the victim is a 5-year-old girl belonging to a migrant worker’s family who resides in a nearby thatched hut.

The accused, identified as an ex-serviceman living in Behdala, reportedly caught the child wandering into his property and picking a guava from his tree. Reacting with extreme and disproportionate anger, the man tied the minor’s hands and legs to the iron railing of his house’s staircase using a rope. He then proceeded to physically assault the restrained and defenseless child, leaving her severely traumatized.

The Rescue: “Save Me, Uncle”

The situation was brought to a halt by the timely intervention of a local resident, Rohit Jaiswal. While passing by the ex-serviceman’s residence, Jaiswal heard the agonizing screams of the child.

Upon entering the premises, he found the young girl bound and sobbing in distress. In the heart-wrenching viral footage recorded by Jaiswal, the child can be heard pleading with him, crying, “Save me, uncle, save me!” Jaiswal confronted the retired officer-who audaciously attempted to justify his actions by claiming the child was a “thief”-and immediately alerted the local police and the Child Helpline (112).

Police Action and Legal Proceedings

Following the emergency call and the rapid circulation of the video, the Una district administration swung into action.

  • Child Rescued: A police team, accompanied by District Child Protection Officer Kamal Deep Singh, arrived at the scene. The child was untied, provided with immediate medical and psychological assessment, and safely handed back to her parents.
  • FIR Registered: Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahender Pal Gurjar confirmed that the police have taken strict cognizance of the cruelty. The accused ex-serviceman has been detained, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against him under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the strict provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Public Outrage and a Forced Apology

The viral footage has sparked a massive outcry across social media platforms. Netizens have universally condemned the act as inhumane, pointing out the severe psychological trauma inflicted on a helpless toddler over a trivial issue.

While the accused later released a video issuing a public apology for his actions, the internet remains unforgiving. Many social media users have tagged the Indian Army’s official handles, demanding that the accused face the harshest legal consequences and that his military pension benefits be immediately revoked.

At India Prime Times, we strongly condemn all forms of child abuse. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for community vigilance and strict enforcement of child protection laws to ensure the safety of the most vulnerable members of our society.
