As the eastern seaboard of India undergoes rapid urbanization, Visakhapatnam is emerging not just as a commercial port city, but as a critical hub for high-tech architectural and structural engineering. The skyline of Andhra Pradesh is transforming, driven by a surge in residential, commercial, and government-backed infrastructure projects. However, the true story behind this urban evolution lies not in the steel and concrete, but in the visionaries engineering these structures to withstand the test of time.

To understand the mechanics of this regional infrastructure boom, the India Prime Times editorial team recently traveled to Visakhapatnam. Our objective was to analyze the intersection of structural engineering, corporate entrepreneurship, and community development. During our on-ground coverage, we continually encountered the footprint of one highly influential firm: Desire 2 Design (D2D) Engineers.

From executing complex government health infrastructure to designing luxury commercial spaces, D2D Engineers has established itself as a formidable force across Tier-1 and Tier-2 hubs in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Intrigued by the rapid expansion of the firm-growing to nine branches within just seven years-our editorial team sought out its founder. This led to an extensive and deeply insightful conversation with Soma Sekhar Naidu Senapathi, the Founder and Managing Director of D2D Engineers.

The Foundation of an Engineering Empire

During our interaction, it became evident that Soma Sekhar’s success is built on a foundation of rigorous academic and practical discipline. An alumnus of GMRIT, where he completed his B.Tech in Civil Engineering in 2010, he went on to earn an M.Tech in Structures from Andhra University. Unlike many entrepreneurs who rush into business immediately after graduation, Soma Sekhar took the time to understand both the theoretical and practical sides of the industry.

He initially served as a faculty member at Wellfare Engineering College before moving to the execution frontlines as a Project Manager for MS Ramayya Constructions. “Engineering is not just about calculating concrete and steel; it’s about crafting timeless spaces where human aspirations thrive securely,” he explained to the India Prime Times team.

This philosophy culminated in the founding of Desire 2 Design Engineers in September 2017. What started as a boutique structural analysis firm rapidly expanded into an end-to-end turnkey consultancy offering advanced 2D and 3D architectural modeling, interior design, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).

Executing High-Stakes Infrastructure

Our editorial team was particularly struck by the high-stakes nature of the projects handled by D2D Engineers. The firm has successfully completed over 1,000 residential and commercial projects, but its involvement in critical government infrastructure is highly newsworthy.

Soma Sekhar led his team in the structural design and execution of the prototype Raithu Bharosa Godowns in Kakinada and Kadapa-a major state-wide agricultural infrastructure initiative. Furthermore, under the Military Engineering Services (MES), D2D engineered the first COVID Vaccine Building at Dolphin Hill, Visakhapatnam, providing crucial health infrastructure during a global crisis. His firm also executed comprehensive structural projects for a major auditorium under the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA).

“When you are building for the public, whether it’s a vaccine storage facility or an agricultural hub, there is zero margin for error,” Soma Sekhar noted. “Our focus has always been on utilizing advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) and strict ethical integrity to ensure absolute structural stability.”

Beyond the Blueprint: Community and Political Engagement

While his engineering accolades are vast-including the prestigious “Creative Visionary Award” in Architectural and Structural Excellence presented by CConnects in 2024, and the “Young Entrepreneur Award” from JCOM-Soma Sekhar’s profile extends significantly beyond the corporate boardroom.

The India Prime Times team observed a deep commitment to community welfare. D2D Engineers actively runs an internship program that has trained over 150 engineering graduates, effectively molding the next generation of structural experts in Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, his firm conducts major blood donation drives every August 15th as part of its robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, a commitment that earned him the Kamalpatra Award and Outstanding Young Person Award from Junior Chamber International (JCI).

This drive to serve the public recently took a highly significant turn. Translating his infrastructural vision into civic action, Soma Sekhar has officially entered the political arena, becoming the active representative and member for the 97th Ward of the Janasena Party.

A Blueprint for Regional Leadership

As our time with Soma Sekhar Naidu Senapathi concluded, the broader implications for Visakhapatnam’s future became undeniably clear. The city’s growth is being driven by leaders who refuse to silo their expertise.

By merging top-tier structural engineering with active community welfare and grassroots political engagement, Soma Sekhar represents a new breed of regional leadership. For the young engineers learning under his wing, the clients relying on his structural blueprints, and the citizens in his political ward, his message is clear: whether you are building a commercial high-rise or a stronger community, the foundation must be built with absolute integrity.
