Doctor Fatally Shot in Cold Blood by Minors Disguised as Patients at Delhi Hospital

An unexpected development occurred in Kalindi Kunj, an area in southeast Delhi this morning when a Unani doctor Dr. Javed Akhtar was shot dead inside Nima Hospital. This horrific event still has the medical staff and the locals and the entire health care profession in a state of shock.

Two teenage boys arrived at the hospital at approximately 1 AM in the night, pretending to be patients who had likely sustained some minor injuries. One of the boys had a bandage on his toe and both were definitely in need of some treatment. The hospital’s personnel dressed their injuries and the boys now requested to see Dr. Akhtar.

Incident

Dr. Akhtar was very nice and always eager to assist patients and therefore without any second thoughts, he got up to meet the boys in the consultation room. However, immediately after they stepped into the room, one of the boys suddenly took out a gun and shot Dr. Akhtar in the head. The sound of gunfire filled the hospital and panic ensued among the patients, nurses, and doctors.

A few seconds after the shot was heard, the hospital staff on duty ran to Dr. Akhtar’s room. Draped on the floor in a pool of blood was Dr Akhtar with head injuries lying motionless on the floor. Although, he did make some effort to revive the patient; however, the patient’s condition had been such that the prognosis for recovery was poor. Dr. Akhtar tragically died on the spot.

The Aftermath and Responsibility

It was obvious to anybody in the vicinity that there was an emergency of that sort and therefore somebody called the police but the police came when the attackers had already escaped. Here the local authorities are looking through the CCTV records from the hospital to find the boys’ age that is around 16.

This is weird mainly because the police ruled out the theory that this was a robbery. The assailants did not take things from the hospital as reasons giving in for this crime are debated. There are questions raised whether it was a spontaneous attack or whether it was premeditated or whether it was purely an attack on an individual. For the time being, work continues and clues are sought by the police which help in tracking down the suspects to the attack.

Displacement and understanding of anxiety in the society

In the Kalindi Kunj area , Dr Javed Akhtar was a notable person. He had been seeing patients for an extended period of time and with great care. He was not just appreciated for his expertise but rather for being warm hearted and modest. Since his sudden demise, many of his patients and friends have been unable to overcome the loss and RV himself is one of them as the doctor is no more with them which just feels unreal for them.

The entire hospital staff is desolate. Haralds office for close to years with Dr Akhter, and this sad episode is posing a challenge to all of them. Everyone has felt the effects of his loss and even the employees now try to come to terms with some of the irrational destructive behaviors that have resulted in violence in that haven.

Kanindi Kunn’s inhabitants are equally thrown in shock. Crime of this nature is not typical for the residents of the area and therefore this issue has created some apprehension regarding the safety of the area. The realization that the youth were the attackers has baffled and terrified most wondering how such an incident can take place.

Ongoing Investigation

The Police of Delhi are making every effort to capture every one of the attackers. Their work currently entails following every lead and history information and evidence from the surveillance systems in the hospital. The police have made a plea to the citizens that anyone that has information that may assist in this matter may do so. There is however no doubt that the case is still under investigation and that the relevant authorities will see the culprits brought to account.

The loss of Dr. Javad Akhtar resonates fills a great void to his family members, his friends and his patients. As a doctor for a long time, he gently treated people, and willingly, offered his help whenever it was needed.
