Fiancée and Lover Arrested for Pushing Pune Businessman to His Death in Pre-Planned Murder Plot

What was initially reported as a tragic trekking accident at Maharashtra’s historic Lohagad Fort has unraveled into a chilling murder investigation. Pune Rural Police have arrested 20-year-old Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, 22-year-old Chetan Babulal Chaudhary, accusing them of conspiring and pushing 26-year-old real estate director Ketan Vishal Agarwal 400 feet to his death into a deep gorge.

Ketan Agarwal, who was engaged to Siya Goyal, died on June 18. While Goyal originally claimed her fiancé slipped while taking photographs in strong winds, investigators and the victim’s family now allege it was a cold-blooded, premeditated murder executed after an initial failed attempt just days prior.

The Motive: A Deadly Love Triangle

Ketan Agarwal, the son of a prominent Pune-based builder, had his life tragically cut short just months before his wedding. Family members confirmed that Ketan and Siya were officially engaged on February 19, with a grand wedding scheduled for November 25. Preparations were in full swing, including the booking of a heritage palace in Jaipur and chartered flights for guests.

However, during the police probe, it was revealed that Siya Goyal was allegedly in a secret relationship with Chetan Chaudhary, a resident of Kondhwa. According to Pune Rural Police Superintendent Sandeep Singh Gill, Goyal did not want to marry Agarwal and viewed the impending marriage as a major obstacle to her relationship with Chaudhary.

“If she didn’t want to get married, she could have simply refused. We would have cancelled the wedding immediately. Why did they decide to take such a drastic step?” a devastated Vishal Agarwal, Ketan’s father, told reporters.

The Conspiracy: A Failed First Attempt

According to the victim’s family, the murder on June 18 was not their first attempt. Relatives allege that Siya had persuaded Ketan to visit Lohagad Fort on June 14, where she allegedly pushed him near the edge. A tree reportedly broke his fall, saving his life. Siya allegedly covered up the incident by claiming she had pushed him to save him from a snake bite.

Despite Ketan’s reported reluctance to return to the fort, Siya allegedly pressured him into going back on June 18, claiming she wanted to celebrate her upcoming birthday. Ketan, who had planned a special celebration and a trip to Mahabaleshwar for her birthday on June 20, eventually agreed.

The Execution: June 18

On the day of the murder, police allege that Siya lured Ketan to the edge of the fort. Chetan Chaudhary, who had allegedly traveled to the location separately, then joined them. Police claim the duo attacked Ketan with an object before pushing him 400 feet down into the gorge.

Investigators uncovered a highly calculated digital trail left by Chaudhary. To avoid location tracking, Chetan allegedly left his personal mobile phone at his shop-instructing his employees to answer incoming calls-and traveled to the fort carrying an employee’s phone instead.

However, police analyzed call records revealing a staggering 2,004 calls and 238 hours of conversation between Siya and Chetan over the past six months, firmly establishing their relationship and subsequent conspiracy.

The Confession and Investigation

Suspicions were raised when Siya visited Ketan’s family four days after his funeral. Her unusual responses to questions posed by Ketan’s sister prompted the family to demand a deeper police probe.

“Both Siya and her accomplice have confessed to the murder after their arrest and admitted that they had conspired and planned to kill him. They also revealed their initial failed plan on June 14,” Vishal Agarwal stated. Ketan’s fther also demanded an investigation into Siya’s family, strongly suspecting that her parents and relatives may have been aware of the plot from the beginning.

Following a formal complaint by the family, the Lonavala rural police registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Both accused are currently in police custody as authorities continue to gather forensic evidence.
