The Science of Selling: How B2B Marketing is Reshaping the Global Life Sciences and Biopharma Industry
4 min read
The life sciences and biopharmaceutical sectors are notoriously complex. Unlike traditional consumer goods, selling highly technical products-such as molecular diagnostic solutions, sterile single-use assemblies, and laboratory cell culture consumables-requires more than just a slick advertising campaign. It demands absolute scientific literacy, an intricate understanding of regulatory compliance, and, above all, the establishment of unshakeable clinical trust.
As India aggressively scales its domestic biotechnology manufacturing to supply a global market, the companies that succeed are those capable of bridging the gap between cutting-edge laboratory science and global commercial strategy.
To understand the mechanics of this highly specialized B2B landscape, the India Prime Times editorial team recently travelled to the industrial hub of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. During our on-ground coverage of the region’s expanding biotech manufacturing infrastructure, we had the distinct opportunity to meet with a key figure driving this commercial evolution: Aanak Goswami.
Currently serving as the Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Marketing at Accumax Lab Devices Pvt. Ltd., Aanak manages the global marketing and communication strategy for Accumax. Sitting down with him for an extensive conversation, our team gained profound insights into how modern marketing is accelerating the adoption of critical healthcare technologies worldwide.
The Intersection of Science and Sales
What makes Aanak’s profile highly newsworthy is the depth of his technical foundation. The biotech industry marketing landscape is frequently populated by business graduates attempting to learn the science. Aanak, however, is a scientist who mastered the business.
Holding a Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology from Sardar Patel University, his career began in the laboratories of Intas Biopharmaceuticals and the Zydus Research Centre, where he worked on the cloning and expression of human therapeutic genes. This granular understanding of cell biology and laboratory operations eventually merged with formal business training, culminating in an MBA in Marketing from Jaipur National University and an Executive Program in Digital Marketing & Analytics from IIM Amritsar.
“When you are dealing with bioprocess industry or labs working on critical applications, your customer is a highly educated scientist, a lab director, or a procurement head whose primary concern is reproducibility and compliance,” Aanak explained to the India Prime Times team. “Traditional marketing doesn’t work here. You aren’t selling a product; you are selling workflow integrity. Marketing in life sciences is essentially consultative scientific communication.”
A Track Record of High-Impact Commercialization
Our editorial review of his professional trajectory over the past 15 years reveals a consistent pattern of driving revenue through deep clinical engagement. His tenure includes pivotal sales and marketing leadership roles at industry giants like Roche, BD (Becton Dickinson), Thermo Fisher Scientific, and HiMedia Laboratories.
During his time as an Area Sales Manager and later Zonal Manager at Roche, he was instrumental in expanding the molecular diagnostics business across Western India. Notably, he was the first in India to initiate the HPV DNA project within Roche Diagnostics India’s history-a massive achievement that earned him the prestigious “Marshall of Roche” award in 2019.
Similarly, at BD India Pvt. Ltd., his consultative selling approach led to the unique achievement of selling three newly launched clinical microbiology instruments for the first time in India, resulting in the “BD Star of the Year” award.
“Sales and marketing in this sector are inseparable,” he noted during our meeting. “My years in the field taught me exactly what end-users struggle with. When I transitioned into global marketing leadership at Accumax, I knew exactly what narrative would resonate because I had spent a decade listening to the customer.”
Scaling BioMax: Engineering Global Trust
A significant portion of our conversation centered around the launch and scaling of BioMax, the premium bioprocess solutions by Accumax. As the biopharma industry shifts toward single-use technology (SUT) to reduce cross-contamination and lower turnaround times, the manufacturing standards required are astronomically high.
Aanak detailed how his team At Accumax positions BioMax in a highly competitive global market. The marketing narrative is built entirely on verifiable technical infrastructure. BioMax products-ranging from single-use assemblies to robust bioprocess bags-are all manufactured in ISO Class-7 cleanrooms, utilizing US FDA-compliant, USP Class VI raw materials.
A critical differentiator that Aanak leverages in his global campaigns is Accumax’s in-house gamma sterilization facility. By keeping the sterilization process internal, the company guarantees a Sterility Assurance Level (SAL) of 10⁻⁶ with dose mapping studies, drastically reducing supply chain delays and contamination risks.
“In bioprocessing, trust is the only currency that matters,” Aanak emphasized. “Our marketing strategy focuses on total transparency-full lot traceability, comprehensive technical documentation, highly flexible customization options and open access for customer audits. We don’t just tell them our products are safe; we provide the data that proves it and we invite them to audit us.”
The Future of Life Sciences Marketing
As our time with the Accumax Marketing team concluded, the broader implications for the Indian biotech sector became clear. The country has successfully established itself as a manufacturing powerhouse. However, to command a premium in the global life sciences market, Indian companies must elevate their brand positioning to match their manufacturing capabilities.
Through the strategic execution of professionals like Aanak Goswami, this elevation is happening in real-time. By combining deep scientific acumen with agile digital marketing, data-driven analytics, and cross-functional leadership, the new era of marketers is ensuring that Indian-manufactured laboratory solutions are not just participants in the global market, but trusted leaders driving the future of biopharmaceutical innovation.
